Paving a new path
HPP Solutions (a subsidiary of Hedinn.com) designs and constructs the HPP Protein Plant, which consumes less energy, is more compact, and contains fewer components than a traditional fish meal plant. This results in 100% utilization of fish waste and offal for all types of fish, creating high quality meal and oil to be sold for animal feed and/or human consumption.

The new frontier in protein recovery
The revolutionary HPP Protein Plant is based on Hedinn’s decades of experience in fisheries and fishmeal production. HPP Solutions is a subdivision within Hedinn. The HPP Protein Plant’s patented design and engineering allows for more cost-effective protein and oil recovery at sea or on land than previously possible.
Waste-to-value operations turn organic waste e.g. fish offal, guts, trimmings, heads, and whole fish into high-quality protein meal and fish oil.
Hedinn has built or upgraded all Icelandic conventional fishmeal plants.
HPP Solutions Protein Plant – HPP
The HPP Protein Plant produces high-quality LT protein meal and oil. The HPP Protein Plant is available in sizes ranging from 10 to 400 tons raw material per day. The HPP Protein Plant allows for more cost-effective protein recovery and fish oil synthesis at sea and on land.
The facility runs on electricity and steam, making it clean, efficient, and flexible. The HPP Protein Plant can extract valuable products from any type of raw material
The HPP Protein Plant is a turnkey plant with prefabricated main components for on-site assembly.
What Makes HPP Protein Plant Unique?
Innovative, simplified design
The innovative plant design reduces the number of main components, process tanks, and control parameters while maintaining the quality of product. This reduces operating costs, energy use, labour needs, floor space requirements, and cooling water usage.
Full utilisation of all raw material at sea
Having started fishing in July 2017, the freezer-trawler Solberg OF1 (photo left), equipped with a HPP-2000, is the first fishing vessel able to fully utilize all raw-materials to make valuable products.
The HPP-2000 Marine onboard Solberg OF-1 has a 50-ton raw material capacity per 24 hours.
The HPP Protein Plant is suitable for a range of fishing vessels, fisheries operators, fish farms and other fish processors. The HPP Protein Plant makes production economical on a more variable scale than previously attainable, making the most efficient use of fresh raw material.
Conventional fishmeal plants
Partner no matter what fishing season
Sildarvinnslan (SVN), Iceland‘s biggest fishmeal and fish oil producer, has commissioned Hedinn to construct a new HPP Protein Plant, having a daily capacity of 380 tons of raw material. The plant will be built in Neskaupstadur town in Eastern Iceland, where Sildarvinnslan is located.
SVN already has a conventional plant with a daily capacity of 1,400 tons of raw material, mainly for processing blue whiting.
SVN said “The addition of the HPP was intended to increase the quality and value of its products and to cut down on energy use.” The HPP will be SVN‘s main operating facility during the herring and mackerel seasons and to some extent when capelin is in short supply.
